Me Made May Week Two Plus

Once again this year, I am thoroughly enjoying Me Made May! Seeing what other MMMers are posting is so inspiring and I love wearing something I’ve made every day. MMM is so personal – we each decide what our commitment will be and it’s all the “right way” to do it. Because sewing our own clothing is just SO right, no matter how we do it!

I’m a bit behind on my commitment to post everyday, although I have worn something I’ve made each day. My May has been joyously busy and full of Sewful Life and photo ops just haven’t been available every day. But, that’s okay, right? It’s the wearing that’s really the thing!!

Here’s my recap of the last week or so. Enjoy!

Day Eleven – Black & White, Black & White, Black & White

I made this top to wear to my family reunion in Texas last Summer and it’s definitely a favorite! Katherine Tilton’s Vogue 8817 is a TNT (tried n true) for me and I think this is make number four from this well-designed, versatile pattern. Turning stripes on their side is always fun and I love the accent of the black yoke piece. The pattern has sleeves, so I modified this a bit for my sleeveless version. Day Twelve – The Arrows of Almost Mom Day

My Grainline Studio Arrow Lark Tee is becoming a weekly wear piece of my Handmade Wardrobe! We celebrated Mother’s Day with our son and DIL the day before at a wonderful waterfront restaurant. Our daughter was out of town this year, so it was just the four of us. My son has been making me laugh for 30 years now and our almost Mom Day included a bit of marvelous silliness. I love being a mother SO much and am very blessed to have such incredible children! For more about my Arrow Tee, click here.

Day Thirteen – Maui Wannabe

Gorgeous tropical Maui-purchased fabric and a great pattern made up my actual Mother’s Day Me Made. This top was stitched up for a Hawaii trip a couple of years ago. I love wearing it on a sunny Pacific Northwest day and remembering the bliss of Maui! Fabric stores are a must-stop wherever we go and this fabric was purchased in 2011 on Maui. I love the swing of McCall 6960 and have made it several times. Turning the neck facings to the right side is one of my favorite accent tricks and I echoed that in the pocket trim this time. Day Fourteen & Fifteen – I Have No Idea

Seriously, I don’t know what I wore those days! I do know they were Me Made! Those two days were filled with sewing, blogging for Coats and Clark, organizing and packing for my trip to Quilt Market, and I think I actually slept somewhere along the way! Quilt Market will get it’s own post this week. I went to see what’s new and find partners for exciting offers and giveaways for you! Although it’s called Quilt Market, there are plenty of products and fabrics shown that we who sew clothing want and need. And, I found a LOT of awesome things for you!! Day Sixteen – Octos on Repeat

My home is about 3.5 hours from Portland OR, site of this year’s Spring Quilt Market. I rented a car and drove down by myself on Wednesday, so I wanted to be comfortable. And, what’s more comfortable than Octopi?!?! I wore my Cotton + Steel Lark Tee and a pair of jeans on the drive and out to dinner with dear sewing industry friends that night.

Left to right in the sign picture: Me, Ann and Katie who run the Sewing & Stitchery Expo and author Rita Farro, who I haven’t seen for five years. There was a lot of laughter and craziness at this dinner, but we managed to keep from being thrown out! If you go to Portland, try this restaurant. Day Seventeen – Wrapping Up in Knit Batik

Tuesday night before I left for Quilt Market, I stitched up this gorgeous Knit Batik from Indonesian Batiks. 100% Cotton, 72″ wide and totally awesome to work with. When you touch unwashed Knit Batik, it feels a bit stiff and doesn’t appear to have much stretch. Once it’s washed, though, it has a wonderful, soft hand and 25% stretch. Fabulous stuff!!

I made the Indygo Junction Warm and Cozy Wrap leaving off the cuffs so I could roll the sleeves up for warm weather. I’m thrilled with it and it’s going to get a lot of wear this Summer!! Day Eighteen – Lemon Squeezing Feathers

So, the picture of me outside is actually from Me Made May 2017, but I wanted you to see my Lemon Squeeze Cardigan full-length. It’s sewn from Shannon Fabrics Embrace Double Gauze and I totally love it! Shannon employees Ellen and Teresa and I were all wearing Embrace when I stopped by their booth that day, so we had to take a picture. Then I turned around and met my almost-twin Barb from the Prairie Girls Quilt Shop! Barb made her tank and infinity scarf from Embrace, so we were fabric sisters immediately. Everyone I met at Quilt Market was so warm and wonderful – including my new friend, Barb!

Day Nineteen – A Tunic Full of Roses

Ellen from Shannon Fabrics kindly sent me this beautiful Cobalt Roses Embrace Double Gauze so we could twin at Quilt Market! I’ve done some work for Shannon, too and once in a while I get fabric. Best “paycheck” ever!! After careful consideration, I made the Indygo Junction Urban Tunic and I love it!! It will get it’s own blog post in a few weeks and there will be a giveaway courtesy of Shannon Fabrics. Watch for that! Ellen’s tunic is Simplicity 8603 and she added a quick matching infinity scarf. I thought we looked pretty cute!
