Sewing When Your Technology Rebels

You haven’t heard from me for a while, but I have been sewing! So, here’s a quick update on my Sewful Life adventures during The Great 2018 Technology Rebellion.  (That’s my positive spin on “everything broke and I thought I’d go CRAZY”!) There will be more posts soon!

Group at Quilt Market with plugged phone noted

Quilt Market With the Dying Miss Phone

I went to the Portland OR Quilt Market show with a phone that constantly wanted to shut down and lied to me regularly about it’s battery life. Honestly, who can deal with a lying phone! You can see my phone plugged into my purse in this otherwise lovely picture of me with some of my sewing industry tribe. (The phone has a new battery now and has begun to relive it’s youth!)  Quilt Market Blog Post Coming Soon!

Day 17 Knit Batik Wrap with Amy closer

Techno Free Sewing

But, you don’t actually need a phone to sew! So, before I went to Market I stitched up an Indygo Junction Warm & Cozy Wrap in super-cozy, not-too-warm-for-Spring Batik Knit. Batik Knit Warm & Cozy Wrap Blog Post Coming Soon!

Day 19 Rose Urban Tunic closer

I also made an Indygo Junction Urban Tunic in this gorgeous Rose Print Embrace Double Gauze that Shannon Fabrics sent me. You may have seen Ellen from Shannon and I twinning in my Me Made May posts. Urban Tunic Blog Post & Double Gauze GIVEAWAY Coming Soon!

Day 18 Lemon Squeeze Cardigan Feathers

Along with the two pieces I sewed, my Quilt Market wardrobe included a previously sewn Snapdragon Studios Lemon Squeeze Cardigan. Also stitched from Shannon Fabrics Double Gauze, this time in amazing Peacock Feathers. This is a super-great pattern that I’ve also made in a knit fabric.  Lemon Squeeze Cardigan Blog Post Coming Soon!

Out of The TBC Drawer

Quilt Market was awesome and. . . exhausting, so I planned a couple of rest and recover days when I came home. Once I got back to my laptop and blogging, I was clicking along and suddenly the screen went black. Not good. Not good at all. I drove Mrs. Laptop to the Dr. PC office right away but, it was the holiday weekend and she didn’t come back until the following week. And, then she was starving and had to have her software reloaded. And, all her passwords reset.

So, there was nothing to do but sew. Which was not at all a problem! Except I had misplaced the pattern I wanted to use and had no computer to download it. This seemed like a great time to dig into my TBC (To Be Continued) drawer. You know the one with all the UFOs and WIPs stuffed into it? Out came these gorgeous Japanese fabric pieces and this was the perfect time to turn them into something fabulous. Japanese Fabric Kimono Blog Post Coming Soon!

Take Scraps. Make Top. Enjoy!

After re-inventing the Japanese Fabric project, I realized that I needed lining and couldn’t get to a store right away. NO laptop and a lying phone, so online ordering wasn’t a possibility. Okay, I can handle this. Sewing IS my Super Power and there’s not much that stops me. So, I pulled out the leftovers from my Warm & Cozy Wrap then cut out and sewed up a two hour Indygo Junction Easy Top. And, I LOVE it!! Super easy and super comfy. Tutorial Dedication

I finished the neckline of my Easy Top with my favorite fold-over trim finish and managed to take pictures for a tutorial. Greedy Miss Phone cooperated as long as I charged her in between each picture. Yes, I’m that dedicated to helping you with stress-free sewing! Knit Trim Neck Finish Tutorial Coming Soon!

Okay, I just wanted to let you know where I’ve been and that there are fabulous things coming up. And, to advise you – when your technology rebels, just sew on and on and on. It’s a great way to spend a device-free week!

  1. Lol! Technology rebellion 😂😂😂. Why do those things always happen in 3’s ??? I listen to audio books/podcasts when I sew so would be lost without my phone, but I do think it’s good to change things up every now and again!

    1. I didn’t realize how addicted I was until it took 4 hours for the phone analysis and battery replacement. Thought they were going to have to medicate me!! 😂😁😜 technology is so great….until it isn’t! 😊

  2. All I can say is thank goodness it was “just” your phone and computer! Can’t imagine if it twere your, no, no, I can’t even say it… okay I’ll whisper (your sewing machine) ACCKKKK. You made some beautiful items in the meantime. Look forward to reading more about them.
Little side note while sewing a sweater/wrap the knife broke on my serger! Oh joy of joys!! Fortunately, I was able to improvise with my sewing machine!!! ugh Ah the life we lead

    1. (Whispering, too.) Oh, my goodness, YES! If it was the machine I’d just be digging a hole in the carpet to crawl in!! Last time I ordered a blade for my serger, I got 2, because I know that pain, also! They really have us on short leashes, don’t they?!? Hahaha!!
