New Sewing Books! Visible Mending and Garment Making

This will be quick!  I met two super cool authors at Quilt Market today. Their books are marvelous and I want to share them with you right away. Because, you’re going to love them!

Why Quilt Market???

Quilt Market in Portland OR is a wholesale show with hundreds of vendor booths and thousands of shop owner and sewing professional attendees. Yes, I know it’s quilting, but there’s SO much more than quilting here. I’m looking for new goodies to tell you about and planning more giveaways, interviews and great info for you!! I’m posting pictures during the day on Instagram – click here.

Now, Back to the Books!

Visible Mending

Visible Mending isn’t even hot off the press yet, but I was able to pick up a copy and meet author Jenny Wilding Cardon today at Quilt Market. Jenny was just delightful and her mending methods will make you wish you owned more torn and holey clothing. Seriously!

I love her interpretation of techniques we’ve all used or wish we knew how to use at one time. The concept of improving a garment through visible mending is such a great fit for a handmade wardrobe! We’ll talk about this more in a future post, but just think “trashy goes pretty” and you’ll have a good idea of why Jenny will make you want to mend.

A big hug to her publisher, Martingale, for making it possible for me to meet Jenny and receive a copy of her book! Click here to pre-order Jenny’s Visible Mending book.

Sew The Garment Making Book of Knowledge

SEW . . . The Garment-Making Book of Knowledge sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? And, it is! I met author, Barbara Emodi yesterday after her presentation on the first day of Quilt Market. She’s just lovely and has a passion for sewing and encouraging other sewists. I’m pretty sure we’re sisters of another mother! I loved Barbara’s philosophy . . . “people who sew today don’t want perfection, they want success.” Right?!? Exactly and her book is full of tips and tricks. I can hardly wait to dive into the book and review it for you. But, I totally couldn’t wait to at least share it with you.

High Fives to her publisher Stash Books for bringing Barbara to Quilt Market and making it possible for me to go home with a copy of her book! Click here to order Barbara’s SEW. . . The Garment-Making Book of Knowledge.

Okay, that’s it sewing buds. Time for bed, so I can go find more yummy things for your Sewful Life tomorrow!!

    1. It’s a pretty exciting book. I think you’ll love it! She covers mending sweaters, jeans, shirts and everything in such a fun way. By hand and machine!

  1. I saw Barbara’s Schoolhouse session on FB. I liked her presentation and put the book in my cart. I will readjust and follow your link.
Thanks for your insight at QM.

    1. You’re so welcome! That’s great that you could see her Schoolhouse. I have so much more to share, but thought I should get a little sleep. Haha!!

  2. Great books! Thanks! I love Barbara’s quote- “people who sew today don’t want perfection, they want success.”
    AMEN! to that!!
What first turned me off to joining the online sewing community was critics pointing out every little “fix” needed to perfect a garment!! Noooo!!
The sewist was thrilled, I was thrilled for her, it was a success!!

    1. I’m right there with you, Eliz!! We don’t have to sew, so it should be fun. Barbara’s definitely one of us. There’s even a page titled “When Not to Follow the Pattern” Love that, too!

  3. I’ve read Barbara’s blog for years. Glad to hear the book is good. I’ll be getting it soon. Thanks for sharing.

    1. I loved meeting her and I’m thrilled with the book! Maybe we’ll get a chance to do something special with it here. 😉
