This will be quick! I met two super cool authors at Quilt Market today. Their books are marvelous and I want to share them with you right away. Because, you’re going to love them!

Quilt Market in Portland OR is a wholesale show with hundreds of vendor booths and thousands of shop owner and sewing professional attendees. Yes, I know it’s quilting, but there’s SO much more than quilting here. I’m looking for new goodies to tell you about and planning more giveaways, interviews and great info for you!! Visible Mending isn’t even hot off the press yet, but I was able to pick up a copy and meet author Jenny Wilding Cardon today at Quilt Market. Jenny was just delightful and her mending methods will make you wish you owned more torn and holey clothing. Seriously!
I love her interpretation of techniques we’ve all used or wish we knew how to use at one time. The concept of improving a garment through visible mending is such a great fit for a handmade wardrobe! We’ll talk about this more in a future post, but just think “trashy goes pretty” and you’ll have a good idea of why Jenny will make you want to mend.

SEW . . . The Garment-Making Book of Knowledge sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? And, it is! I met author, Barbara Emodi yesterday after her presentation on the first day of Quilt Market. She’s just lovely and has a passion for sewing and encouraging other sewists. I’m pretty sure we’re sisters of another mother! I loved Barbara’s philosophy . . . “people who sew today don’t want perfection, they want success.” Right?!? Exactly and her book is full of tips and tricks. I can hardly wait to dive into the book and review it for you. But, I totally couldn’t wait to at least share it with you.

I make cushions and bags and I’ve been asked lots of times if I can repair or amend clothes. This is not something I’ve done before but I may start to learn. These books look good x
It’s a pretty exciting book. I think you’ll love it! She covers mending sweaters, jeans, shirts and everything in such a fun way. By hand and machine!

What first turned me off to joining the online sewing community was critics pointing out every little “fix” needed to perfect a garment!! Noooo!!
